Not the greatest race in the history of motorsport or even touring cars.

I don't think there's a rule that states that each race should be 'better' than the last.

peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Whincup penalised for pit lane infringement, so was classified 14th

Whincup stripped of second by post-race penalty

Rick gets 2nd and SVG 3rd. Lowndes gave up the podium He will be even dirtier

Doesn’t sound too pro-888 now does it?

Perhaps that was what Monsoir Lacroix was whispering into Mr McLaughlin's ear, post race?

Thought it was an interesting race. McLaughlin a well-deserved win, Kelly a much needed podium. I thought it seemed obvious Whincup was running less DF leading to higher straight speed but less corner stability as compared to the 17.

Also thought DJR should have long pitted McLaughlin by 5 or 10 liters as the opening stint showed McLaughlin had a slight pace advantage and could have closed down Whincup prior to stop 2. Oh well, Scotty Mac covered it for them. Looking forward to race 2.

That's exactly what they should have done. Put an extra two seconds of fuel in then jumped him in the second stop. Matching rbrs fuel load made no sense.

Mark Dutton on speedcafe.com.au about the ruling against Jamie Whincup:
Quote:
“He’s then realised that isn’t the right cone so he’s turned the pit limiter back on, and then passed the proper cone and then turned it back off again.

“There’s no gain because he was already in front of Scotty McLaughlin but that’s not the rule.

“The rule isn’t if there’s a gain, the rule is if you break the rule you break the rule. If you do it on your own it’s the same penalty.”
No gain? By that reasoning, if you're in the lead you shouldnt need to use the Pitlane Speed Limiter at all, because, you know, you're in the lead and all....

It was obvious there was no gain. He left the pits in 1st, and finished the race in 2nd. Which unfortunately for him, became 14th.

The "gain" people will be referring to was the intermittent one by releasing the limiter earlier, which helps explain why his gap to MCL after they both left the pits was a lot larger than expected given how close they were in the lane.

Was the gain because of the little blip off the limiter, or cause Scotty had to prop at the merge cone?

Pretty harsh penalty compared to a jumped start penalty.

Those are some sexy qualifying results. Kelly with genuine pace and some rookies beginning to find their feet.

He would've gotten less for running him off the road.

It is the standard pit lane infringement penalty..... harsh yes, probably overly so, but it has been the same for a while and many have fallen foul of it for minor infractions. RBR had no problem with the penalty, basically that it was not intentional but admitting 'guilty as charged'.

same penalty Scott got in newcastle. would suggest jamie got more of an advantage than Scott

the real question is why wasnt it picked up during the race, the data suggest he was 7 km over the speed limit

Proximity of car 17 probably blocked the laser to an extent, or there's no pit exit speed loop at the island - I'd suggest either or both of those things mean it wasn't picked up. Same with the flashing rear light, when there's a car right behind it can't be seen either way.

Understanding what you are saying. Its just we were told that there were timing loops all the way along though, or was that just for newcastle.

I would have though that pit lane entry and exit were the key points for checking time.

Hopefully we will hear me

Not sure if it was officially sanctioned, but R10 on Foxtel was live streamed over a FZb page this afternoon.

I still maintain there aren’t enough pit reporters on the ground... the PHR car had issues and we never quite understood why, certainly not from anyone in the team, even if they were working under the front of it. Can’t be hard to have at least 1 if not 2 roving units, and a talking head to speak to the pics

Congratulations to Mr McLaughlin... and well done to Nissan for anotger podium...
