Autosport International - Rallycross

Fantastic that Rallycross has a good presence at the Autosport International NEC, 8th-11th January

Petter Solberg will be in the Live Arena plus the Autosport stage

The BTRDA Rallycross Championship will have a great 3 car static display on Saturday and Sunday

The BTRDA Rallycross Championship will also have 8, 2wd cars at a time racing inside the live arena on all 4 days.

It's expensive if you don't need anything in particular and are just going 'for the show'. If you're looking for seats, race suits, helmets or anything like that it's a good place to go and try all the different options for size.

I don't find it a great place to buy as its just too busy. The main stalls (Demonthieves etc) were so crowded last year that you often faced a long wait to speak to anyone. I did get a new helmet with a very small discount but I suspect I could have done better shopping around.

Good to see a strong rallycross presence though.

Nice to see rallycross with such a strong presence in both the static and live show this year.

I regularly did Autosport for a number of years, but found a lot of the content very samey, so I have missed the last couple. Given it has been a few years since I last went I should probably give it another look.

And that is why I rarely drive to any stadium based event and have never driven to the NEC: far easier (and cheaper) to get the train there!

Although Autosport isn't what I would call a cheap show, at the least the entry costs haven't drastically increased like some other annual car exhibitions (the MPH show immediately springs to mind).

Leo

"The main halls were so crowded"

And there you have it in a nutshell. Why on earth Haymarket would do anything about reducing prices when they have the blind motorsport audience in thier lap every year.

LAst time I went there which was many moons ago I was working, walked round it all in about 2 hours and then went to work, it was poorly put together, cheap and a lot of the people there were either pervs taking pictures of fake tan models or F1 fans.

Target audience for Haymarket really, so that explains it.

So maybe the solution is to increase prices to keep crowds down?

Honestly chunder, you're so anti everything that you often contradict yourself. It's crowded cos it's a popular show in a populated area. It's pricey because it can be. It can't be cheap and spacious. What would you propose it does to satisfy the proper grass roots fans?

. It's got a variety of motorsports on show and live action. Good info and sells stuff to the public. It's £14 to watch the latest film in a London cinema and £5 for a pint. I don't think £35 is a rip off nowadays.

For starters they could offer a ticket for show goers only, not to see the live show.
As for cinema i havent been for years when i can watch anything i want free with a mouse click, yes i admit to being a cheapskate
But a race meeting is good value, the price of this show is more than entry almost at WRX at Lydden, dearer than most European venues.

My point is that why would Haymarket drop the price? Its been a trade show for years not a public show, they have a captive audience and can therefore get awsy with charging the earth, why should they change anything? Floor space is monumentally dear,i remember that from rallycross trust days, so really unless you are trade and buying kit, its a very expensive non race meeting?

I have no problem with the cost of getting in, I have always in the past saved more than the cost of getting in by taking advantage of 'show offers'.
I do however agree with chunder there should be an option of just entry without being forced to go to the live action.

My main gripe is that the organisers are coining it in from both sides. The price of a stand at the show is astronomical, forcing many championships, clubs, and associations to give up going.
Fair enough the commercial entities actually selling products, and taking in money at the event, D.T.'s etc, paying for their stands, but it is called the Autosport show, so why not let the guys who want to promote their championships/race series get a vastly discounted stand price. Ater all if it wasn't for these, there would be very little to put in the Haymarket magazines.

Fair point about the seperate ticket prices etc. Pretty sure I've seen other motorsports shows do that, maybe even the excel show with the dodgy car park rallycross track had different ticket bandings... That track was such rubbish, didn't Per Eklund race round it in a Saab? What a joke.

Yes, I couldn't agree more. It is also very expensive for the small traders, tuners and specialists, many of whom have now abandoned the show. That makes it less attractive to the serious enthusiast or competitor. Maybe there is a market for a more specialist show? I get more out of things like Race Retro even though my main interest in not in historics.
