Rod Birley should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Just for the record the incident in the paddock area (what can only be described as a "burn out" up the hill) was dealt with by the clerk of the course. The driver concerned was fined.

I think Graham Bahr had his battery go flat, hence his slowing pace towards the end

Sorry Grahame i am really trying not to laugh (Honest) after our long discussion on alternators and little batteries, I will stick to that big old high energy battery in my car and just carry a few extra pounds weight, mind you whats a few extra pounds when the old girl weighs in at about 3200lbs plus anyhow.

Only kidding honest, hard luck mate.

i'm not sure at which point the alternator actually died, i suspect it was before the last race even started,

the really funny thing is that i've been having discussions with richard brent on alternators, who has a baby battery and NO alternator!!! and it was me that had the problem

My wife still thinks you need a noisier dump valve on that turbo Graham.
Add that to the list with 150A alternator, and 320Ah battery.

Mr Payne's run up the hill was most unfortunate for public relations. His driving on track was quite entertaining, getting some very nice slides around the hairpin, elbow, and later, Paddock (once he got the right gear). His previous frustration with car problems should have been left elsewhere, and a financial kick in the wallet may have focussed his energies. Still he's damn good with carbon fibre!!

yes it is fairly quiet, hopefully the new bigger engine planned for next year will sound a bit more manly and satisfy your good lady,

i sure miss the real deep induction bark (not to mention the instant throttle response) from my old car, while wandering down memory lane i think i'll change teh advatar to one of my old 02

err yes, i believe he also gained something on his licence, a shame, i guess when he put his car in gear he forgot to do the same with his head.

on a slightly different note, i used to sprint in the same circles with mr payne a good few years back and we nicknamed him " win or spin" due to his on track maxium attack and a bit more, 12 tenths driving style

Alan - i came up to look at your astra a couple of times, but there was never anyone near it to ask where you were.
Sorry, - I thought the other races were so good - Iwas off watching them - especially Track and Race classes B and D (pity about steve though !) apart from changing plugs after getting the car of the trailer it behaved all day, so it was only checking fluids and wheel torque settings so I didn't spend much time with the car - also I parked it on the tarmac to try and keep tyres cleanish till they cooled down - tow car and other bits were parked in the top paddock . Will you be going to snet ? If you are, I'll mail you my mobile numbern and come back to the car.
enjoyed the day, but I'm getting frustrated with the grp N engine - It's been reliable but hard work with the weight it has to drag around - roll on next year !

Bill brought round a video of the races from Lydden last night - that first lap incident doesn't look any better in slo-mo but it did at least let us see what actually happened. I don't think there was a lot anyone could have done to avoid it really - and looking at the video it was lucky nobody else got collected when Govett got spun round.

from where i was i had a good view and i cant remember another race where so many cars got a good start and were so tightly bunched,
racing incident i'd say

Not sure I'd have wanted your view of it that must have been 'interesting' to say the least, you were right behind the line of 3 across the circuit (Govett, Brent and Ronchetti) when it all went haywire.

As you say though it was a racing incident, not really anything anybody could have done about it, with the cars that tightly bunched all it took was a wobble to trigger the mayhem. Seeing the video only went to further highlight just how lucky it was that nobody else ended up in the tyres or with serious damage.
