Phew!

According to my wife's opinion that would let me off everything forever.

Just need to know now if her opinion would be taken into account. If it would I'll get it documented and witnessed. That should be quite easy to achieve. (But would that go some way towards disproving the point?)

Merry Christmas Iain!

Will you have a chance to escape to the garage and the Lotus on Sunday?

The weather is forecast to be quite mild albeit possibly wet and a tad windy - a perfect day for fettling in the garage I would have thought, other than the wind perhaps.

It's good to see the right people brought to justice instead of just persecuting the drivers who are often bullied by employers
Yup. I'm surprised by that verdict but pleased for the driver.

As we live just up the road from the crash site it has been covered extensively round here. I knew the driver's dad as well, long time ago.

It really was a case of a young driver being bullied by unscrupulous operator, and I suspect the mechanic was to a certain extent too. He'll be off the road now with any luck.

Don't hold back, Grant; you are obviously a great fan of my proposal (not taking claim for it - I'm sure that someone else suggested it long ago).

Maybe you will be just as enthusiastic about another view that I hold; that direct taxation should be reduced, and the burden be placed on indirect taxation. Again, I think it would be far more equitable, because those spending more on non-essentials would pay more in tax, whilst those on modest incomes who can't afford to spend on non-essentials pay far, far less.

And if taxation was reduced to the amount that Hong Kong used to levy, then it wouldn't be worthwhile (or profitable) to either evade or avoid tax. It worked there; it would be ideal in the UK.

Paragons of virtue Colin, salt of the earth, pillars of society, fine upstanding citizens (well when not hunched over the handlebars), a credit to country.

Mind you I did forget, members of 10/10ths.

It'll be a case of a young inexperienced driver would never get a job on a decent firm due to being young and inexperienced so has to try and make an impression wherever he can, Catch 22, you need experience but you can't get it.
Drivers with any experience would tell them where to go and walk away and work elsewhere. One advantage of being an old grumpy git it I don't drive any truck if it has a roadworthyness fault, even a bulb not working and it stays put.

Picking up on Mike & Iain's footie theme, I see that the Chelsea player 'Oscar' is moving to play for a Chinese side. Does seem odd that a young (aged 25) Brazilian international would want to go and play in China - hardly the height of football excellence (yet). Surely not the salary - as it's only £400,000 a week!

Afterall, Carlos Tevez (not exactly young) is going for £625,000 per week - surely young Oscar could have done better.

And they say the Premiership is awash with money!

Light years away from me standing with my Dad at then non-league Scarborough FC in the seventies selling 'Golden Goal' tickets to help raise money to buy floodlights.
