james tucker should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
17 Practice - Driving Time - Change of Drivers
Practice sessions are to be scheduled:
Night time practice must be done by all drivers in a team within the hours of darkness, this period of time will be allocated on the day by the Clerk of the Course. The first drivers time will be used for grid allocation and the second driver after the practise chequered flag has been dropped to make the end of practise, will stay in the car, go down the pit lane back out on the track to form up behind the Pace car on the grid for the start of the event. No stopping in the pit lane after the practice chequered flag has been shown, only officials of the meeting may stop the car and speed limits have to be observed.
Pit Stops with Refuelling......
Will have a mandatory 90 seconds stationary stop........This will be policed......... 10 second penalty will be in use for offending cars this
will be a StopGo

James, one question I have to ask - how are they going to see to do refuelling in the dark? Presumably someone will rig up some lights or something? Also, are you bringing your own team of marshals to police the stops or will you be expecting the normal (if one can use the word normal where marshals are concerned!) pit marshals to do it?

Delta25 - IIRC the MSA have to issue a permit for "night racing" and there are requirements in the blue book regarding lighting etc. that I think have to be complied with. I don't have a copy to hand but perhaps if someone does they can take a look?

no one needs to look up the regs for night racing,it is
obvious we need light and that is an MSA req, plus on the start and finish line.Lights round the circuit in the form of yellows... and a pace car... with lights.

Steve Wood should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
After much discussion, this race is most definitely on, and is a brave initiative to kerb the costs of endurance racing, and expand the scope of racing into the winter months. The format of "practice and race", in immediate succession in the same conditions obviates the need for an additional evening's practice/qualifying session, thus reducing the costs for the teams, and the valuable time of race officials, marshals, and the myriad other people who are entirely necessary to support a motor sport event.

It is hoped that all involved can fully support the coming weekend's format, and make it the success that the hard work behind it deserves.

See you Saturday afternoon.

Bear in mind these are the people who will have been at the circuit & signed on for a full days racing before 8:00 THAT morning - some TWELVE HOURS before the race is due to finish.

This doesn't include traveling time to and from the Circuit

I do understand that the day is long, and the commitment of
all the people involved. To change the problems related to
Friday night qualifying and to save the cost for all including the marshals, we have tried to keep the racing to one day.
Yes I do understand that maybe there should be a split type
rotor, and the current system will have to be modified, but this is a first and will in time earn the sport a breather,
as the sport reduces in a shrinking market and or disappears altogether...we are hoping for a good race and thank you for your support.......

Is that the fact that you have to pay marshals to come on a friday and they are free on a saturday?????

While I do wish this event all success I have a bad feeling that this meeting will be very short on personnel. Especially as the meeting is 2 days and with a late finish on the Saturday one of the days is going to suffer and I would guess it will be the Saturday as people do have homes and families to go to. I did hear that the BRSCC was holding back from sending its tickets to marshals until they know exactly what is happening and the times. I think I will be making a trip to Mallory for this weekend though.
Good luck to all those who go.
Anna

I'm all for this format of racing....get up at midday stroll up to Donington, race and be back in town before closing time, beats hanging around for 6 hours bored.

PS for all you sensitive types this is in light humour

Slightly off topic but in the general vicinity can I assume at the like of Le Mans, Daytone Spa et all the marshalls work shifts?
I was astounded at the recent Six Hours of Spa meeting that marshalls I had seen from 8am Saturday thru to gone midnight were back on post before 8am Sunday
And I agree we should have a pukka 24 Hour race in the UK the 2CV's are great but real grunt in the dark should be encouraged ( Donington please..or maybe even Rockingham would do )

Well it looks like another BRSCC b**** up Looking on other forums the marshals are only just being made aware of the length of the saturday. Then they are expected to be back at Donnie for 08:00 on the Sunday. I do not do that for work so why would somebody do it for a hobby. I know marshals are dedicated, we do our race and go back for a warm up and relax they are standing there all day. but 12 hours in autumn on a nice cold circuit. When will clubs learn they can't do this to volenteers. If my race is late I stay in a warm van and seeth but i don't leave mainly because i won't get my moey back what will all the unpaid voleenterrs get nowt!

Just a quick question, as marshals will be out on post for so long (a 12 Hour day at least) I hope that there will be a lunch break (at least 30 mins) and some hot food and drink being taken around to post, after all it is cold? Or is this to much to ask for and should we just stand up the corner and be quiet. This is surely only basic health and safety????

they are feeding us on the ssaturday but i bet its just cobs and crips agagin.

100%hondafan - marshals have never been paid and i dont honestly think they want to be. in the words of don truman they just want respect and that is not what they are getting at this meeting.

I believe food is being provided for marshals on Saturday, and although not a "proper" lunch break there are a couple of longish breaks between some sessions/races to possibly give people a chance to stand down for while.

If It's at Mallory, then surely there would be the desire to turn left just once a lap.

MP, see you Saturday

Tickets have now been sent out (I got mine yesterday and they will be going back today). John Sadler from BRSCC Midlands has included a sentence about this race and has asked people to stay until the end. Whether they do or not remains to be seen. I look forward to reading this forum next Monday to see what people have to say about the weekend.
