Sequential Gearboxes In Or Not ????

Hi all ,
Just wondering from those in the know if the V8's have gone for sequential boxes this year or not , I know there was a thread on this a while back but it didn't clear up if they were being used .

So they run with the Hollinger with electronic gear cut but won't make the switch to sequential , bit silly if you ask me for a top level touring car series.

These cars stopped being a production based series years a go , I like to think that we are more of a series akin to the DTM and other touring car classes (WTCC ,BTCC ) than a circuit racing series of Nascar .

Phase3 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I for one reckon the H pattern is great! a monkey could operate a sequential box and it would be a step backwards for the sport IMHO

Marcos Skaife has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Sequential boxes are for Girls!!! Actually they are for girls that cant drive!!!!

With the parity formula we have sometimes the inability to change quick enough or someone missing a gear creates excitement.

personally if i were i driver i would like to keep the H-pattern hollinger just for the challenge sequentials are boring, but IMO i can see the sequential boxes being fitted in the comming seasons 2008 and beyond.

Absolutely agree. Sequential boxes are an aid just like traction control.

I love seeing the drivers having to change gears and heel and toe. How exciting is it when you see a driver catch a slide one handed while changing gears?

For Feck sake, Whether its a H pattern or sequential, they still have to change gears. I cant see how having a H is anymore challanging. What having a sequential does is limits the risk of selecting the wrong gear on a down shift, so you dont buzz expensive engine parts.

I'm sure that one mr M Skaife wish they had sequentials too

Personally i have loved watching the coverge over here in the state of the V8's, but they gotta keep the H-pattern i LOVE it!!!!. Its real Auto racing to me, masters of the craft are what the drivers should be called trust me.

You answered your own question in the same post as posing it! You can't miss a gear with a sequential gearbox, therefore the need for driver skill is reduced even further. Its just more sanatising of an already over sanatised sport..........

I've herd prices from $20-35K AUD, but depends on who you talk too. Unless someone else on here knows an exact price. Almost the same cost as the regular H pattern, just that the sequential has a long life cycle before rebuild.

Holinger developed some a couple years back for some Vipers and the Monaro we had running in the former Nations Cup category. Since PROCAR closed up shop along with the Nations Cup category, haven't herd of anyone else use the Holinger Sequential in Australia.

Ok thanks. We have an importer here in the States for the sequentials, but limited numbers. Our Speed TV World Challange Corvettes can now use the Holinger sequential.

Hmm, lets see.
Sequential costs the same (or marginally more) then a H gate
Sequential is more reliable
Sequential requires less maintenance

No, but lets keep a H gate, coz it might be more exciting for the punters. Someone might miss a gear (Or leave it in 3rd on the Grid)....
