I heard a rumor that the RUSSIAN TIME team were more interested in driver skill instead of money, although I don't know if this is just because they are a new team or not. The same source (will try find a link later) also said that Sam Bird didn't pay a single cent for his drive.

Also GP2 will be cheaper (if such a word can be associated with motorsport!!) next year, due to using the same chassis as this year, so I guess everything carries over (ie. no needing to buy a lot more spare parts etc), which could help Mitch.

Ultimately, he will need to raise about $2.5-3 million, which was a struggle last year, even with the $400,000 from winning GP3.

Maybe its time to sell himself, where you can buy shares in Mitch Evans or whatever.

As for when/if he does raise this money, hopefully he moves to a better team. Arden just haven't been that strong in GP2, with Luiz Razia being the only driver in the last five years to get some good results.

I guess the best teams to go to for Mitch would be RUSSIAN TIME, Carlin or DAMS (who I know were considering him for this year).

Possibly Caterham, although they have their drivers from their development program.

Anyway, thats my thoughts, make what you want of it...
Most guys seem to make GP2 a 2/3 year thing, just like they did with F3000 and F2 Before that. GP2 seems to cost the earth, god knows what they spend all the money on, as they don't test between races like the old days.
Also you have to be with trhe right team at the right time. I remember years ago Alan McNish did 3000 and won a few races in 1990, then the next year was a complete waste and some of the races he didnt even qualify. They did have Lolas and the car to have was a Reynard.

Anyway getting off Track

If he can't raise the cash for next year, F1 will seem a long way off.

I really like what Brendon Hartley has done with his career after Red Bull.

So much Kiwi talent around

Good call Promax....looks like he will hopefully land a drive with a top GP2 team next year.

I am confident after watching him this year that if you give him the right equipment with a good team behind him, then not only can he win races, but I think he can challenge for the title.

So its Russian Time and Racing engineering that are interested in him.....can't ask for better than that.

Great news on the Porsche Supercup as well.

Kiwis all over the show

Evans 4th in the morning session and 6th in the afternoon with RUSSIAN TIME, completing 42 laps. His next test will be on Thursday with Racing Engineering.

Meanwhile in GP3 testing (also at Abu Dhabi) Casssidy was 20th in the morning and 10th in the afternoon, completing 35 laps. They were "focusing on their own program" and he said he was "pleasantly surprised with being 10th fastest." He still has two more days with the same team, so wouldn't be surprised to see him near the top come the end of the test.

How good was it to see Earl Bamber beat Sebastian Loeb!!!!!
Wow, and he's just been given 200,000 euro by Porsche as part of a sponsorship deal.
A bit off topic, but how awesome does the Macau circuit look???

Is Hayden Paddon not racing in Rally GB this weekend? I thought his deal was for Spain and GB.

Nope Paddon not doing Rally GB.

Also just shows what a great job he did in Rally Spain, when WRC2 Champ Kubica gets his first drive in a full spec WRC car & fires it off the road….. two days in succession!

Brendan with Porsche, Stanaway with Gulf sports/GT, Bamber running well in GT plus others doing well in GT. Are we going to see NZer's win another Le Mans some day in the near future ....?
