To say that the move should have been cleaner because he had the superior car is to choose to have a very simple understanding of the dynamics of racing and following another car.
What if Hamilton spends another 2 laps behind button destroying his tires, and effecting the cooling of the engine, turbo, and so on. Then in the process and he doesn't reach the podium. Hamilton didn't spend any longer than he needed too behind these cars. He made the moves. All credit to him. He is driving like someone who knows the consequences of following other cars for too long. Especially when Rosberg has the track to himself and is running in first... Like they always say. Catching a guy is 1 thing. Passing him is another. Alonso lost a world championship because of this. |

Your vote suggests you do understand why. If everyone gave a top 3, I think we'd find Rosberg would feature in many people's, but when people can choose only one, someone like Rosberg who, as you say, did everything right but also had little competition, particularly so given that his teammate started so far back, is always going to lose out. As many people tend to favour overtaking over a lights-to-flag win and some automatically discard such drivers (just how often did Vettel get DOTR last season? Not anything like as many times as he won races as I recall), it's not surprising Rosberg has garnered so few votes.

I certainly don't sense any lack of sentiment for Rosberg. But in that Mercedes, we don't know how much of a challenge he had. That's why I couldn't plump for Bottas this time. Now I would say Vettel is hard done by if anyone is here. Ricciardo does the heroics, going toe to toe with Alonso, but it was Vettel who beat them both. Pigeons and cats come to mind. |

Bottas because he was the only one of 17 drivers who managed to keep Lewis behind him when attacked.
Bottas because he fought, even after his team told him not to fight. Bottas because he is the man no one spoke about last year. The man no one gave a chance. Bottas because he is a racer who held on for a great podium, and will hang on for many more. |

I'm very democratic, you see. I just had to include Kimi in the options. I've stopped short of including Mark this year. He literally does not turn up to the races.

Hamilton made a lot of progress but realistically in that car pretty much any of the drivers could have done that so not driver of the race. Good scrap between Alonso and Riccardo - Riccardos recovery through the field after his first lap Massa dodging was a more impressive drive than Hamiltons I'd have said - given the disadvantage of having the Renault lump. |

Rosberg started from pole in the fastest car. He finished first.
Bottas, started from second on the grid in the second fastest car. He finished second. Hamilton started from 20th on the grid and finished third. He had the fastest car, and should have finished second. He didn't. Vettel had the third fastest car and finished fourth. A good drive. Alonso had a poor car and finished fifth. A very good drive. Ricciardo was delayed at the first corner and battled hard to finish sixth. Another very good drive. Hulkenburg with a good car finished 7th. A steady drive. Bianchi finished 15th. in a Marussia. Probably a good drive. Who was driver of the race? I have no idea. |
