I'd take a guess and say that this so called 'abandon-ware' is legal for download, but don't quote me on that...

Strange that. I can get it to work on my pc. You have to turn screen colours down to less than 16 bit to work.
I have been play Grand Prix Manager the first one too with no problems, love this game as it has no 10 year limit.
I played about 25 seasons, won about 13 consturctors championships on the trot then started to fall down the feild due to lack of devlopment, in the end I was lucky if my cars finish 8 laps behind the leaders, but in my last two years before I retired I paid a 48 year old (or around that age) Rubens Barrichello a win bouns of 2,000,000 per race and hey! We won the drivers championship 2 years on the trot. I then called it a day and retired manily due to Rubens retiring and bankrupting me in the process.

I think that this problem is because GPM2 is screwed up in the registry. I can't uninstall it because the uninstaller doesn't work, and I can't find it through regedit.. what to do? hmmm

Can't you just delete the game of C: delete its directory and then reinstall it? I guess that should overwrite all the settings when you re-install it.

How To Let GPM2 work in XP:
- Make a shortcut of the GPM2.exe file
- Right click on the shortcut, click on Properties.
- Click on Compacbility
- Change the compacbility to '256 Colours'
- Start the game with the shortcut

Yup, I've done that in the past with this PC, but unfortunatly it doesn't work any more. It's probably something to do with graphics drivers come to think of it.

Deleted it, but when I come to install it again it tells me "GPM2 is already installed at C:\mps"

From the site's own FAQ
Quote:
But isn't abandonware illegal?
Unfortunately, yes. Despite the fact that publishers no longer derive revenues from these games since they have stopped selling them (and any revenues from retailers that still sell them were gained a long time ago, at the time of sales), it is illegal to distribute them so long as copyright holders have not released them into the public domain, and 95 years after the games' release have not elapsed.

As such the link has been removed, but since the thread was started to organise a league, I'm leaving the thread open for those who have the game already and wish to take part. In future if you're not sure, best to be on the safe side and not post it!
Anyway...
I think I had/have Grand Prix Manager 1 or 2 on disc. My dad bought it for me ages ago. I moved onto Grand Prix world after that. Its a really good game though
