What is a Contact and what is a Friend?

You will see you have two options for users - add as contact and add as friend.

Contact
You can add any registered user as a contact so they appear on your Contacts list. The other user does not have to approve this addition and you will not appear on their list.

Friend
You can only add a registered user as a Friend if they accept you adding them. If you are accepted, you will appear on their Friend list as well.

You can add someone to your contacts lists by clicking on their name in any post and selecting "Add as Contact" from the dropdown menu. You can also add them from your Control Panel in the "Contacts and Friends" section.

What is the Ignore feature?
The buddy list is used to keep track of the friends you have made on this forum. By going to your "User Control Panel", you'll be able to see which of your friends are currently online, and be able to send them a private message. Adding people to your buddy list also allow you to send private messages to multiple forum members at the same time. You may add any member of the forums to your buddy list by clicking on their name in a post and selecting "add to buddy list" from the menu.

Ignore lists are used for those people who's messages you wish not to read. By adding someone to your ignore list, those messages posted by these individuals will be hidden when you read a thread. In addition, people on your ignore list will not be able to send you private messages.

What are Social Groups?

A Social Group is a group of users with a common interest who can discuss a subject, outside of the normal forum.

Social Groups is a new feature that was provisioned as part of our recent upgrade. At present, only Moderators may set up Social Groups but any user may join them (provided the group is not invite only).

It has not yet been decided how to proceed with Social Groups. We will update everyone by Announcement and Notification when we have more information on what Social Group facilities will be made available in the near future.
