My experience in a single seater is that the wider harness can slip off the HANS making it very uncomfortable. The slimmer harness is a lot better but still not perfect. It seems to depend on a range of factors - car type, driver build, mounting points, seating position etc. Sometimes the 3" straps are fine, sometimes not.
