I think this is a case of mis-understanding of an English way of saying things.
"out to get" is more likely that everyone is out to beat them, rather than trying to destroy them. "Gunning for us" is the same.
I'd hardly believe that anyone would want to purposely destroy someone. Least of all a factory team...
