I remember Montoya ran in Barber saab in 1994. I think Diego Guzman was the champion and was never heard from again.
The nice thing about that series was the good prize money they paid out. $10,000 for a win and $100,000 for the champion.
In mexico Formula 2 and Formula 3 were very popular. I recently worked with a driver who was in F2 at that time.
On Track magazine covered those championships quite well at the time and they would probably be the best source of info. If you can't source old copies, the motor racing library at Talledega or the Watkins Glen motor racing library could probably help.
