What is happening to a certain extent is that where a common failure occurs- to something like a dashboard, for instance- specialists are repairing them on an exchange basis. If the market is big enough, someone will take it on. Remember reading that someone has redone the electronics of the original Towns 'wedge' AM Lagonda digi dash (that failed very quickly and often) with modern components. OK, hardly mainstream, but guess the cost reflected that!
