Seeing the Capri thread at this time of year strikes a chord with me. Back in the late 60s when the Capri first came out my brother-in-law ordered a 3 litre in Aubergine with black vinyl roof and it looked the dogs doodahs. It was available for collection in Harrogate on Christmas eve and as he lived in Leeds and we were all going over on Xmas day he asked me to collect it and take it over for him. Half way to Leeds ( and travelling well within the running-in speed - honest!) the throttle assembly fell apart and we came to a sudden halt. Not much traffic around on Xmas day in those days so I took some cord off a present and jury-rigged the mechanism into working order. The only problem was that it was either full throttle or none at all so the rest of the journey resembled a kangaroo. Then he asked me if I'd go back to Harrogate in it to get it fixed after Xmas but at least I had the rest of the day for my more mechanically minded brother to make a better fix.
