Evidently, both cut-out options have different impacts in terms of aero efficiency and it would be very interesting to have some comparative analysis between the two concepts (that's for the guys at racecar-engineering
).
There must be a good reason for Audi to switch to the inner-located cut-out option on their LM-spec package and the bulges at the trailing end of the cut-outs, although counter-intuitive as they increase the front face area, may be an attempt to exploit the cut-outs to achieve some aero benefit.
Could this help to tidy the air flow behind the front wheels and thereby improve the efficiency of the rear wing ?
