, AFAIK having competed and worked in rallying during the 70s, 80s and 90s,
Rally cars were silenced to a level required by the road traffic laws of the country they were competing in. I can understand from a RR organisers PoV that a less silenced V8 would be attractive, however, presuming they don't have noise issues at the venue!
