past bella is massively unimpressed with present bella for saying this but i like how it's done in btcc and minis. after a race, someone does a draw and picks a number. the grid is reversed from that position onwards.
means there's no race to be slowest or fighting for 8th or whatever, but that the guys inside the top 10 or wherever they draw the line still get a chance for some silverware. that's a real incentive for drivers to compete if they're not in the golden seats. it works out similar to the way we see f2 drivers win their first race in sprint, and the feature race follows not long after.
