the events at Le man last June have been discussed by the world motor sports council and they have come up with the following decisions>>.

(all info sourced form sportscarworld.com)

1.Allowing Mercedes to start.

"the decision to allow car numbers 4 , 5 and 6 to start the race after two dangerous accidents in practise was apparently based on an inspection on race day and not by any written declaration by the constructor (Mercedes Benz) as to the effectiveness of the aerodynamic modifications carried out"

"The arrival of intervention cars at the accident to car no.5 (Dumbrecks Merc)during the race seems to have been seriously delayed by faults in communication"

"The wisdom of pushing an abandoned car (Brundle Toyota) across the track at night was questionable the maximum speed in the preceeding sector was over 200kph"

A FIA observer has been appointed to attend the 2000 event.

CIRCIUT SAFETY

this was concerning the bumpa where the Mercedes cars launched themselves off. But Im not sure about the "Tetra rouge" section of the circiut which we have discussed in previous topics on this forum.

the early finding on this subject were classed as follows.

"In order to eliminate certain characteristics which disturb the vertical stability of the cars at high speeds existing criteria concerning the radius of the longitudinal profile of the track (humps) will be STRICTLY ENFORCED as will the guidlines for kerbs"

This now has been changed from "strictly enforced" to "a strong recommendation".
so it seems that they do not have to change the circiut for safety reasons..meaning they dont have to remove the humps.
the reason is apparently regulations have been changed to remove the posibility of the cars blowing over like they did in 1999.
