I think you're looking for confirmation of news that isn't his to confirm and the reason he phrased it the way he has is because his sources were speaking with him and not for the record. Otherwise he would have had confirmed names and likely an interview with Zak or someone else from McLaren. At this point it feels like McLaren has been kicking the tires enough to warrant smoke, everyone involved in Indycars has hinted at their talks and they've been seen talking with multiple teams and both engine builders more than just conversationally.
