I know little about the Capris but the above numbers ring bells from my CSL knowledge. When BMW decided to homologate the CSL for Group 2 and build 1000 examples the chassis number range started at 2275001. Therefore the last chassis built to satisfy the FIA would be 2276000. The chassis numbers selected for the factory race chassis started from 2276000, the second chassis was 2275999, 2275998, 2275997, etc.....as the Capri numbers quoted above seem to include the last digits 999.998,997, etc...maybe the same system was used. It may also have had the effect of convincing the FIA that 1000 examples had been built ??

That’s very interesting Alex, I hadn’t made that connection, needs further investigations I reckon!
