Not sure if he ever did the actual challenge, but he certainly went across Australia from West to East in a solar powered car, called the 'Quiet Achiever' (also known as BP Solar Trek)back in 1982. He did it in partnership with Hans Tholstrup, the man who went on to set up and run the World Solar Challenge. In effect the journey was the inspiration for setting up the challenge.
Larry's brother Garry was also involved. The three of them devised built and developed the car. Larry and Hans were the drivers, Garry more the mechanic. It took them 20 days for the 4000 klm journey
