I know in these days of parity/level playing fields and like the old Carnival Barkers used to shout "Roll Up! Roll Up! Everyone wins a prize!".. .maybe they should allow some freedom with body/aero design?

Since the problem most open classes have is blowout of costs. The only way thiscould happen is if you said - If you want to win, you have to get a S5000 as it is. However, if you can make a less expensive version that is comparable but couldn't win or podium (Unless it was a particularly talented driver in the wet).
That way you can still compete in a national level class on tv, and trade off being an underdog,
