These prototypes will compete in the European Le Mans Series, Michelin Le Mans Cup and Asian Ultimate Cup beginning next year. The Asian Le Mans Series (2020-2021 season), IMSA Prototype Challenge (2021) and Australian LMP3 Cup (2022) will then switch out the current cars for the new models.

Because they introduced the new cars before the previous cars were set to expire by the contracts signed with the teams. IMSA was not sure to introduce the new generation until the 2021, with possibility of 2022, season and they stuck with their deal. Just cause the ACO thinks everyone has unlimited cash doesn't mean they do and honestly they need to dial this bs back to a sustainable level or there will be no feeder series and then no sportscars with decent drivers left.
