According to Autosport magazine, former Grand Prix and Le Mans winner Jacky Ickx was subjected to an attack on Wednesday night.
Two armed men approached the six times Le Mans winner in Uccle, a Brussels suburb, and demanded the keys to his Mercedes 500. Ickx had just parked the car and was making his way towards a restaurant. The men allegedly threatened to kill Ickx if he did not follow their demands.
The Belgian refused to comply and was sprayed with tear gas before his attackers fled.
'I know I did not react the right way,' he said. 'I did not reflect and had a rush of blood. I took an enormous risk.'
