But would Audi want to make the R18 and AWD car with the KERS system? Or would Audi even run KERS on the R18?

Audi by 2007 or '08 got the R10 to where it needed ballast to run at 900kgs, even though it performed better at 925(like in the ALMS). Audi was able to get the R15 to the point where(like Acura) they had to run the car with a 150-200lbs of steel or tungsten in the nose to get it to 900kgs, let alone the 930kgs they they've had to run since Le Mans last year.

Audi can easily make the R18 as light, but with the KERS, there's packaging issues, in that where will the 25-35+kgs that the KERS will bring be placed within the car? I can see the R18 if this happens having weight distribution similar to the Audi R10 or the Peugeot 908, both of which are rearward biased compared to the R15 and the old R8.
