Whilst in Martin Groves' ownership it had the high airbox fitted ('GR37B-style), but still with the air filters poking out of the engine cover: I often wondered why they didn't go for a full high airbox intake?

My first guess is that an attempt was made to balance the air flow between the trumpets i.e. the rears would in all likelyhood, receive more air due to external air flow where the front trumpets under the original bodywork would be reliant on being fed from the engine bay. However, the present added high air box has limited advantage.

The design of an airbox is critical if any gains are to be made. For an enclosed airbox to give any advantage it requires to be sealed and flow testing conducted to ensure adequate and equal air flow/feed to all trumpets.
