Historic F2

I recently acquired a Brabham BT40 F2 car from 1973. It currently has a 1600cc BDA on carbs in the back and FT200. I would like to run the car in the European Historic F2 championship but would prefer a 2litre engine.
According to one of my books the Brabham works team ran BT40's with BMW 2litre engines for a bit in 1973 but did a BT40 run with a Hart or BDG at that time?
I have lots of spares to build a BDG but no BMW M12 parts, hence my question. Or if I have a choice of BDG or M12 which should I use? The BDG is lighter, less expensive but down on power, the M12 is sexual chocolate!
any help would be appreciated.
