That area of California has very green and very tan growth depending on the season, and not too much further north is VERY green, but I can't think of any major tracks in that area. Think redwood forest and coastal fog near constantly. California runs the entire spectrum from desert scrub to temperate rain forest so it all depends where you are. Sonoma just happens to be more chaparral (cismontane if you prefer specifics) than green forest most of the year.
