CAMS also classify V8 Supercars as sports sedans, that is not so relevant IMO, it is just how they fit into the classification. TCM are 99% Group C & previous cars - not sure any cars are specifically inspired by sports sedans?
But they are not an historic category hence many upgrades and freedoms. I don't agree with everything, but I recognise they have to 'make it work' and applaud the category for offering the "TCM engine" as a way of dealing with excessive costs.
