Only just happened across this......as one whose first car (given to me by my Dad after we'd borrowed it to go on holiday, run the big-end bearings, and fitted a replacement engine from a rotten Minor convertible, in the campsite where we were staying ) was an A35 van, I found it fascinating. The engine we fitted was a vast improvement as the one we had wrecked turned out to have been an 803cc - obviously not as tough as the 948cc that we fitted, as they were testing here
