Absolutely, the Essex boys knew their stuff back then and they all wanted to beat Doc Merfield by any means possible.
I must have attended the 27 September meeting as dad used to gofor for David Brown who was 2nd reserve in his Triumph Vitesse that day. Poor old David was not the fastest driver around and would have probably struggled to keep up with the Saab.
