Hello, sorry for bumping an old thread but I had been watching the full STW race from Avus and went to look at the Wikipedia page and I think there is some information that isn't correct.
I don't believe there was a mechanical failure of any kind but rather he clipped the barrier on right (inside) which then pitched him into the outside barrier heavily.
Also he didn't drive a RHD car because of his previous experience or being British, all the super touring Nissan's were RHD whether they were UK built or the cars running in Germany, Japan or Spain.
