Whilst I agree with you, to a degree, I do feel they benefit from some form of racing presence. Even if the customer doesn't know which series the car is in, having a factory supported race version of the car means it finds its way into video games and showroom posters, it all helps.
For example, would you say the Viper is as well known or popular now, as a concept, as it was a decade ago in the height of its GT programme?
