It's just the same line locker/ hydraulic handbrake they use on the grid.
Apply brake pressure, operate the line lock, release brake pedal, and pressure remains in the brake circuit until the line lock is disengaged.
All they have done is allowed the use of the device outside of the starting procedure. Remember when Tander pulled it during a qualifying session at Symmons Plains to avoid the sand trap, and got pinged?
