Personally I like the split between Pro and Am.
But the rational for merging the class is that amateurs don't need a class of their own...aka not everyone needs to take a trophy home. Some have suggested having a cup for the top amateur driven car, but then that's not much different than what we have now.
At the end of the day, the Am class isn't taking entries away from the Pro class, so I don't see what the big deal is if they are split.
