That was one of the worst results for Andretti Autosport, a far cry from their 1-2-3 in the second race at Mid-Ohio. Alexander Rossi, Colton Herta and James Hinchcliffe qualified second, third and fourth.
Rossi who had led for 61 laps, lost the rear end of the car and went into the wall nose first at Turn 3 on Lap 69.
Prior to the Lap 80 restart, Hinchliffe spun under caution at the hairpin and as he rejoined the track he collected semi-teammate Jack Harvey.
Just after Lap 84 restart, Colton Herta outbraked himself into Turn 4, which dropped him back to 13th place.
Marco Andretti had his chances of earning the final $1 million Leaders Circle contract for 2021 ruined, when his right-rear tyre was punctured, sending him into the tire barrier, as Sato lunging up on the inside.
