Tech question about the current Vantage GTE and GT3 cars. Why are the exhaust exits so close to the front wheels? Is it just to have short exhaust pipes to reduce back pressure/boost power and torque, or is it strictly driven by packaging due to the turbos being within the V of the engine?
I know that the BMW M8 runs similar turbocharger packaging, but has a conventional side exit (albeit on only the right side of the car) exhaust system.
I think it looks cool and reminds me of some of the old JGTC/Super GT cars (Nissan Skyline GTR and 350Z, eventually the Honda HSV and Lexus SC430), but it seems odd for a GTE/GT3 car.
