Re the pedal cars - just think yourself lucky you never had to 'time' them. The one time I did time-keeping at the Revival I thought my colleagues were kidding me when they said get ready for the next race. I naively presumed we would just check the first three across the line - but no it was all of them - all manually (no transponders)! Great fun, not.
