I've heard that it was based on or maybe built from the IMSA GTO or one of its South African derivatives, but those were all wide-bodies, whereas the Belcar car has those ultra- wide wheelarches, but a quite narrow body otherwise, so I'm not too sure how correct that is. |

From here, it appears it's not based on the 90 IMSA GTO. But the 90 IMSA GTO did go to South Afrtica, rebuild into a new chassis as the S4 GTO. Kuismanen then imported that and ran it until he retired it in 98 - which appears to be when he moved to the Audi 80.
