I prefer it if Brundle interviews other F1 personalities if he can't get drivers - if he's stuck he can generally bump into Bernie and get a few words. At least he knows what he's talking about. "Celebrities" get enough exposure without invading F1 coverage.
I'm not sure that showing the top 8 on the screen all through the race would be a good idea - when other things appear, like the graphics showing G force, it could start to look a bit messy. The commentators tend to go through the positions fairly frequently anyway, so I don't find it's a major problem if I can't see the top 8 or 10 or whatever instantly.
