Space Framed Special Saloon

John Robinson built and raced a 1300cc BDA Escort in the early 1970s and it used a space frame which he also built, but more in the Clubman's/ Mallock style. It may well be that the JR Escort predated Geoff Wood's car - I shall look out some old results sheets.[/QUOTE]

I believe John Robinson prepared and possibly raced a couple of space framed sports cars in the late 1960's early 1970's, a Turner and a Lotus Elan, both using Ford engines. He was an excellent engine builder, so it would have made sense for one of the Escorts engine builds to be done by him, it didn't come cheap having your own brand name cast in the alloy rocker cover. Even Hart didn't do this.
