Race 1 result:

I thought that was a good race. The fact it was overcast and much cooler meant that it took a lot longer for the black tyres to warm up to racing temperature than normal, and therefore tyre strategy was at a premium.

There was some great drives from Colton Herta and rookie Rinus Veekay, with Vekay leading for 15 laps and Herta for 25, with either looking good for the win. Both Rossi and Rosenqvist got themselves in the mix finishing 2nd and 5th, respectively.

Scott Dixon went into Race 1 with a 72-point lead over defending driver's champion Josef Newgarden. Dixon spun with two laps to go dropping him from 6th to 9th, so Newgarden's win means the deficit is now reduced to 40 points going into Race 2, which will be 75 Laps as opposed to Race 1, which was 85. That could make things interesting.
