Certainly to avoid conflict with those ball sports. Which would potentially free up space in free to air TV schedules.
The weather seems to get a mention every time a summer season is mentioned.
So what is better for the paying spectator? - the weather last weekend at Winton or the weather in November with an average temp of 25 degrees C?
As to the drivers. Motor sport has been run in the North American summer for over 100 years, whether is be the dry heat of California for racing in Sonoma (average temp of 35 degrees C) when NASCAR run their road course race to the oppressive humidity of the south.
Touring cars did run over the summer in Australia with no sophisticated driver aids for cooling following the Tasman Series circus.
