Their (current model at least) depreciation curve is pretty steep here as well! Which models are made in the USA now? I know the X5 always was.

It was UK specialist press saying that the car was styled to appeal to the US and China, but of course that could just be them surmising.....

I wondered about the front and pedestrian safety rules, but other manufacturers seem able to meet them without resorting to such a vulgar front! Your reference to recent models and art statements (not) is pretty much how I view their range nowadays. IMHO the last good looking one was the ‘F06’ 6 series Gran Coupe.....
