Yeah, no. Stay at/near the circuit, you will probably pay more/have to rough it, but it will be worth it - you are spending megabucks to get here, don't scrimp on the last bit. And it will add flavour to the stories you tell when you get back home ... speaking as someone who spent a wet 5 days camping at La Sarthe once many years ago.
Can't speak for the tintops, but the 12hr pits/paddock is a goldmine for the speccie and that means staying late/getting up early.
