Tja should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

Early days, but could this actually turn into a ratings boon for Supercars? Fans just seemed happy T8/Penske didn't win - not many seemed to care about the tires.

While it might prove popular short term, there's a hidden long term problem. Brock, Lowndes, Whincup, Johnson, Moffat etc are all fan favorites, legends you might say. This reputation came from winning, a lot. Dominating. Forcing the Championship hopefuls to go for "best average finish over 3 races" will rob fans of the next legend, even if it is "entertaining".
From a (far away) outside perspective, Supercars has its big events at Adelaide, Bathurst, Gold Coast... As long as they leave these mostly untouched with these kind of rules, it could be a good way forward. So have entertaining rounds during the season but let them have a proper go at the big events without messing around too much. The big teams and drivers will still have their glory moments in the big races and the smaller teams can have some fun in between. Drivers that have won 5 times at Bathurst are more likely to be the future heroes than the ones that have won a 50 minute sprint race at SMP right?
I know it's not pure racing but a good way of making the show a bit better.
