At least in the GT class, the fields where teams built their own cars were bad as well. The 2013 finale at Houston had what 4 PWC GT cars and 2 Audi R8 GT3s from GMG?
Could they have kept GTS where teams built their own cars and never gone the GT4 route? Maybe, but GT4 seems to be the much better option. GTS at Houston had 19 cars. GT4 SprintX is consistently in the low to mid 20s.
What I am surprised by is that the SRO hasn't done more to reduce costs for GT3 teams - go to 60 minute races to reduce tire, refueling and crew costs, and completely differentiate from IMSA's longer format. Make your claim that GT World Challenge America is the place to come for cost effective GT3 racing where you'll win overall and go with that mindset.
