Definitely walk round the track. There is transport (tractor pulled trailers) from Woodcote to Madgwick with stops en route. You might need to queue at busy times. The programme comes with a radio or take your own (87.7FM usually) and there are big screens at various points.
Have a look at the snappers guide on pistonclick to give you an idea what you can see from where. All photos taken from public areas.
