That was/is the philosophy of what TCR is. The cars are still very much affordable compared to most other formulas, but the running costs at international levels are far too high for what it is hence why many young drivers preferred to move on from TCR national to more affordable seats in GT3 or in the silhouette series’ instead.
It also doesn’t help that Eurosport have done a poor job at marketing the series and that it became so difficult to follow with a lack of live races and other sports broadcasted above it, though that is a problem faced by the majority of TCR series nowadays...I do wonder what this could have become under Lotti’s direction. Though the costs were higher in the Lotti S2000 era, there’s no disputing that they were the best touring car years of this century.
